More Jackall Products from ICAST 2010

Curt Arakawa just introduced two new lures to hit the market for Jackall USA, which brings a total of 4 new lures (that I know of) to the US. Aside from the Swimming Ninja G90, and the Ammonite Shad, Jackall USA also brought in the Jackall Bling 55, and the Jackall Soul Shad.

Bling 55 - The Jackall Bling is a flat side crank bait that's meant to run shallow and also has a high pitch sound to it. The lure is one of Ken Iyobe's creations, a Jackall Pro from Japan who also fishes the BASS Central and FLW in America. The lip of the crankbait is made of circuit board material. Another feature of the lure is the two different sizes of the hook. The rear hook is slightly larger than the middle hook, which allows better hooksets due to short bites. The lure is 55mm in length and weighs in at 9.3 grams. As of now, I do not know how many colors it comes in for the US variations, but in Japan it comes in 8 different colors. I assume the colors though would follow what we have here anyways. Here is a stock photo from Jackall Japan website, I have a few of these lures too so I'll be adding close up pictures later on.

Soul Shad - Next up is the US release of Jackall's "Soul Shad". Interesting enough, this lure just recently came out in Japan and is already a top seller there. Usually Jackall USA waits a while for the lures to hit US soil, but there was little wait for this lure. This is one lure I'm definitely excited to buy as I cannot find any online from Japanese sellers to ship to the US. As you can see, Curt explains the chamber inside that allows this 58mm lure to be casted at long distances. The slim body focuses on a fast retrieve and also a dead stick jerking action. The slender body also enables the fish to easily inhale the lure, and to hook the fish securely. Again, the color variations from the US and Japan vary, so most likely the colors that will be introduced here will match the current Jackall colors already out. Japan has 12 different colors.

I wonder if I can get a job at Jackall USA, it's a few miles from my area and as you can tell, I'm a huge Jackall fan. Curt Arakawa, if you see this I'm available to work! I was the one who gave you a few Ammonite Shads at Bass-a-Thon before it was released to the US.

ICAST 2010

It's that time of year again where all the tackle junkies start saving up for the new gear that is to be released. As always, I'm excited to see what will be out this year, especially from a few of my favorite vendors such as Shimano, and Jackall.

Jackall however, I need no wait as to what will come out. Everything here is already out in Japan, and with the internet it's always easy purchasing items overseas. What I heard was released from Jackall USA however was the Jackall I Shad soft plastic, designed to be for the "i-motion" retrieve style popular in Japan. Also, one of my favorite lures from Jackall will be readily available (hopefully) in the USA. That lure is the Ammonite Shad. Another lure that was showcased from what I know is the Jackall Swimming Ninja Bluegill G90, known in Japan as the Veyron. Jackall Japan offers the Veyron G110, so I'm assuming it's slightly larger than the US version, which is rare because Jackall Japan usually has everything.

Shimano is up next with the reel I've been waiting for since hearing it in Japan. Shimano Scorpion XT1000 is now in US soil, labeled the Shimano Curado 50! For $199, it's a great deal considering it's $50 less than its Japanese counterpart, plus you get the Shimano Warranty!

Tired...

Working in the a.m. sure takes its toll on you; benefits are that you're out early, cons are that you are sleepy during the day.

The day was great, nice and sunny outside, not too hot either. The wind was ruining the action though. Started with the Jackall Cover Craw 4" around the lake and alternating with the Jackall Giron. The Giron produced several followers but none committed, some fingerling even chased the Giron.

Met a friend who was fishing at the upper lake, and fished with the same pattern; the Cover Craw and Giron, and within a few minutes, there was a tap on the line. I set the hook (line cut my finger a bit, I need to make a habit to remove my finger from the line after a bite) and this feisty bass took me immediately to the weeds, the power of the Jackall Hyper Approach was enough to turn it away.

Fished about 2 hours more for nothing, but noticed again that the bass are busting up on the surface around the same time. I tried luring those surface busters with a Jackall Aragon SSR to produce a topwater bite. Nothing at all, there's always next time...

Back Fishing!

Oh does it feel good to fish again. Jury Duty is over, and I now have time to spend on the little pond I call home. Today was a 2 fish day, and at this lake, thats an AWESOME day. A change of color on my flick shake did the trick. The first two hours I was throwing a junebug flick shake neko style for no bites, finally changed colors, took a rest on the bench since I worked at 5 a.m. Immediately after that, within 3 casts, there goes that all too familiar feeling. THUMP* I was hesitant to set the hook, but when I reeled in the slack and saw my line moving, I knew it was a fish!

This 2nd fish was just staring at the wall. Tossed the lure and shook it in front of her, she gulped it up and swam off, gave me a decent fight

Jury Duty

Well Summer didn't start off as planned. CSULB is on break and the week after school got out, I got stuck on Jury Duty for a long and strenuous criminal case involving murder, sex, drugs, affairs, you name it. Three and a half weeks later, it's finally over. That can only mean one thing; FISHING!

Sad that I haven't fished in such a long period of time, but that hasn't stopped me from buying new stuff. Curado 300E is now in my arsenal to tackle those Largemouth Bass's cousins in the ocean, Calico Bass. I'm all spooled up with braid and just waiting on my rod, and a phone call from my uncle to get on the boat!

Other new items are the new Jackall Lures from Japan; Dragon Bug, and the HYD Geck (Maruhata Worm). Can't wait to fish these.

BTW these past few weeks, I have learned a lot. Here's a quote that can sum it up.

Sunline Super FC Sniper and Machine Gun Cast

Let's see what FC Sniper is all about. Apparently, it's the #1 line in Japan. I bought 12 lb, and its listed as the same diameter as my current Seaguar InvizX Fluoro @ .285mm diameter.

It's spooled right now on the Chronarch 50Mg, and so far I'm liking it. Feels strong, low stretch, subtle, and very soft. It also casts great and minimum memory. Can't judge completely till I land a fish, so tune in next time!

This lake has seen too much pressure. Please practice catch and release.

Decided to change up a bit and downsize baits. I went from throwing the 5 inch Sasuteki Craws, to throwing a 4 inch Dum Dum Hog. Increased weight size to go through the grass and moss better, and tried a darker color. Those changes sure made a difference. Just only my 5th or so cast with the hog, there was a tap, and with a swing of my rod, a fish.

Ten minutes after that, while throwing a smaller Ammonite shad, weightless to swim subsurface, I see a decent 3 1/2 lb bass come out of the grass and slam my lure. I swing and miss! Still haven't got that Ammonite Shad fish. Fished a bit more for nothing.

A few weeks ago, Prof. Seiji Kato caught this monster in Lake Ikehara on 3.5 lb test. The bass weighed 10 lbs 4 oz.

Please Catch and Release

One hour to kill...

Went to the local pond to kill some time. My goal was to get a fish on a spinnerbait, and with the weather looking the way it was, it looked like a perfect time to accomplish that goal. The sky was somewhat cloudy due to the small amount of rain we had the night before. It was actually supposed to rain today with thunderstorms but other than the clouds, there was no signs of rain to come.

I started with a new Jackall crankbait I bought, the Jackall D Cherry 48. I immediately changed the lure as it was running a bit to the left. Went with the spinnerbait and within 10 minutes, a fish was hooked. Nothing large, but it was fun catching it on a bait I rarely throw.



After that fish I tied on the Cherry and tuned it to run true. Set the rod down and grabbed my Texas rigged Dum Dum Hog for a few casts. About 4-5 casts with the lure, there was the tick; I set the hook and bring in a fish slightly larger than the first. Great way to kill that hour...

Jackall Seira Minnow

The Jackall Seira Minnow is a straight retrieve hard lure that is the new hottest technique in Japan. The concept to this lure is of a bait fish swimming straight as if it was unaware of the predators surrounding it. It has a hydro hull design that allows water to enter through the mouth and out of the gills to aid in the straight direction it is designed to do.

I bought two a while back when I ordered an Ultra Light setup but my rod has yet to come in. Finally decided to throw this with light baitcasting gear. Loving the lure already, was the only producer of fish at the park today.



This lure works best for clear water situations where bass are feeding on the surface and is best thrown with light line, especially 4-5 lb test. I noticed some bass fry scattering away from a predatory bass, the bass would swarm in on the school, circle the rock and repeat the cycle. I threw on the Seira Minnow 70 next to that rock and immediately the bass goes for it but turns at the last second. A few casts later, the bass charges but misses my lure. Finally it charged it as my lure came passed the rock ambushing my lure.

Not a big bass by any means but a nice catch considering it was the only fish I saw caught the whole day.

To fish the lure, use light line, as light as you can get away with, preferably 4-6 lb. test and with a spinning setup(although I used 8 lb test with a baitcaster). Cast as far as you can and point your rod tip to the lure and slowly retrieve the lure back to the boat/shore.

Although this bait is VERY small at 70mm, roughly 2.75 inches and will catch small bass, it WILL catch the big ones also, just watch the end of the following video. Not all big bass want a big meal, just like us, sometimes they just want a snack! Here is Hata Takuma fishing the Seira Minnow (note the angle of the rod as he retrieves):
